May 21, 2024 – ROCHESTER, MINN. – The Rochester City Council approved an Operations and Programming Services agreement with Oak View Group/Sports Academy at its meeting on May 20. Together with City teammates, Oak View Group and Sports Academy will support the design and construction phases of the Regional Sports and Recreation Complex. These organizations have a strong history of relevant experience that will provide a facility operator’s insights as the City works through the market study review and the design and construction process of the Regional Sports and Recreation Complex.
“We are excited and eager to advance this project and look forward to working with this new partner. They have a strong portfolio of venues nationwide and we are optimistic that their knowledge and experience will be a strong benefit as we bring this project to the next phase,” shares City Administrator Alison Zelms.
This is the next step in advancing the project following the completion of the Gaps Analysis & Preliminary Design report.
The Regional Sports and Recreation Complex aims to meet the demands of the community and region for the next 20-30 years. The $65 million project includes construction, soft costs, and site acquisition. The final scope of the project may evolve based on additional funding availability, including grants and private contributions. Funding for the complex was approved by voters with the November 2023 sales tax extension.
The City is currently in the site selection and acquisition process for the new facility, with additional activity on the project happening in the coming months. The goal is to have a multi-sport indoor/outdoor facility open by late 2026.
