Rochester Sports Foundation grant to Sports Mentorship Academy

Rochester Sports Foundation (RSF) is proud to share, in coordination with the Mayo Clinic, that we presented Sports Mentorship Academy (SMA) Executive Director Andre Crockett a grant of $5,000 to assist in facility rental for his organization.
Crockett shared, “This grant will expand SMA reach to the youth that have been affected by the closure of the Rochester YMCA. To accomplish this, we at Sports Mentorship Academy, are collaborating with Rochester Empowerment Center and Rochester Public School to create a Recreational Center at Gage East adjunct to the elementary school.”
Through this collaboration youth will have access to facility space weekly focusing on sports- related activities and social skills to build character. These skills are taught during a four-hour period between 3:30-7:30pm. This is scheduled purposefully at times of the day when the temptation to engage in crime and drug activities is at the greatest.
The funds will be used for the leasing the building, upgrades, and purchasing of equipment. RSF grant fund is based on donated dollars and the profits from the annual Rochester Sports Banquet sports auction. 100% of these funds go directly to facility enhancement in Rochester.

(RAEDI) Board of Directors passed a resolution last week to support the renewal of the city’s half-cent sales tax that would raise $205 million to support four major projects, including a $65 million regional recreation and sports complex, street reconstruction projects ($50 million), an economic vitality fund ($50 million), and $40 million for flood-control and water-quality projects. Rochester chamber gives its endorsement to $205 million sales tax extension

ROCHESTER – With little more than two months before a Nov. 7 special election, the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce is endorsing a renewal of the city’s half-cent sales tax that would raise $205 million for four projects, including a $65 million regional recreation and sports complex.
