Rochester voters approve $65M for new sports complex

November 7, 2023

So now that the voters of Rochester have officially approved the four City projects, including the Rochester Sports and Recreation Complex, what are the next steps?
Here is what we have learned to date: 1) The City will get an RFP ready for design and community engagement services to design the facility. 2) The City will look to negotiate on a parcel of land where the facility will be built; 3) In conjunction the City will look for private partnerships to potentially enhance what they can build in this facility (land donation, capital investment, etc.); 4) These actions would likely happen in early 2024.
Rochester Sports Foundation would like to thank all the local organizations that supported this effort. Exciting work is now ahead!
Thank you to the following groups for their support:
Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce
Rochester Area Economic Development Incorporated (RAEDI)
Rochester Sports Foundation
Powers Ventures
Rochester Sports
Rochester Area Builders
Rochester Rush Soccer Organization
MN/USA Wrestling
Rochester Area Realtors
Rochester Community Youth Basketball
Rochester Area Special Olympics
EA Therapeutic Health
Hospitality First
Rochester Youth Fastpitch Softball Association
Rochester FC Soccer Club
Rochester Area Foundation
Rochester Area Pickleball Association
Rochester Swim Club
Northland Youth Wrestling Association

Rochester Sports Foundation will be working closely with the City on plans for the facility. As things develop we will post information to this site....thank you

Rochester Sports Foundation grant to Sports Mentorship Academy

March 15, 2023

Rochester Sports Foundation (RSF) is proud to share, in coordination with the Mayo Clinic, that we presented Sports Mentorship Academy (SMA) Executive Director Andre Crockett a grant of $5,000 to assist in facility rental for his organization.

Crockett shared, “This grant will expand SMA reach to the youth that have been affected by the closure of the Rochester YMCA.  To accomplish this, we at Sports Mentorship Academy, are collaborating with Rochester Empowerment Center and Rochester Public School to create a Recreational Center at Gage East adjunct to the elementary school.”

Through this collaboration youth will have access to facility space weekly focusing on sports- related activities and social skills to build character. These skills are taught during a four-hour period between 3:30-7:30pm.  This is scheduled purposefully at times of the day when the temptation to engage in crime and drug activities is at the greatest.

The funds will be used for the leasing the building, upgrades, and purchasing of equipment. RSF grant fund is based on donated dollars and the profits from the annual Rochester Sports Banquet sports auction. 100% of these funds go directly to facility enhancement in Rochester.
