DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary
The director of the Rochester Sports Foundation (RSF) reports directly to the Rochester Sports Foundation Board and is charged with guiding the Foundation’s effort in the planning and development of future community facility needs along with a mandate to establish its long-term goals, strategies and operational structure by utilizing local input and resources to ensure alignment with the goals of the Foundation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
+ Strategic Development: Define and implement the vision, mission and implementation of short- and long-range goals of the Foundation.
+ Management: Be involved in all sports facility discussions and plans with a focus on facility development and improvements. Work with RSF board members and community contacts to set up proper groundwork to determine the best direction for the Foundation to progress forward with the sports facility development effort.
+ Community Engagement: To build, manage and foster strong relationships within community organizations and stakeholders at local, regional and state levels.
+ Direction: Establish a base of sports facility needs through comprehensive detailed work for the Rochester, MN area. Identify future needs and compile a prioritized list of future projects including estimated costs, potential funding sources, and desired timelines. Focus should be on
long-term development, funding and operations. This can be accomplished through public, public-private or private investment but should also be open to any other sustainable method.
+ Facility Development: Create a process that addresses potential facility development investment for the City with City Administration and other City leaders to analyze, support and determine feasibility, and ultimately a path to action.
+ Marketing: Drive the plan to market the concept as agreed by RSF leadership that will educate this initiative to all local businesses, investors and interested parties and will also appeal to sports organizations and citizens together with a menu of donation plans that will not only fund the initiative but will have strong appeal to citizens.

+ Proficiency in building and maintaining relationships and connecting to city government, local organizations and businesses.
+ Adaptability and ability to adjust to strategies and plans based on evolving needs and focus.
+ Must have the drive and desire to set an example in working long, hard hours at all times including evenings, weekends and holidays, should it be required.
Top Priorities
Industry knowledge with 5-10 years of experience in various sports, sports tourism and event management.
Computer knowledge is required with strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook with some knowledge in various programs such as QuickBooks, Publisher and internet tools such as Dreamweaver.
Knowledge of account coding of general ledger accounts, preparation of monthly financial reports to the board, budgets for events as well as organization for the annual budgeting process.
Strong communication skills to be able to work with board members, community leaders and volunteers on a regular basis locally as well as sales presentations in securing future support from businesses and outside groups.
Skill needed to organize, prepare and present a PowerPoint program to large or small audiences to inform them about the RSF or to introduce a large, complex facility concept.
Develop and manage the RSF website and social media with continual attention to updates and fresh perspectives on Foundation activities, news, community projects, tourism and sports highlights.
Managing the future as well as having a broad understanding and appreciation of the history and background of Rochester Sports and Rochester Sports Foundation with all the benefits, services and income provided to our community.
Driving the organization and collection of articles for the annual Silent Auction is a major effort and fund raiser for grants. It requires acquisition of donations, solicitation of businesses, display, sales and follow-up.
Oversee the publicizing, announcement and receipt of awards through the grant program. 100% of the dollars raised at the auction go directly into the program where once a year applications are reviewed and awards are presented to the winners.
Organization of an agenda, calendar and reports are provided in a packet to the BOD for their monthly meetings. This also includes recording the minutes along with financial reports and annual budget projections.
